10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

The Radeon RX 6800 XT 16GB will blast beyond the majority of games requirements at 1080p, so crank up your screen resolution to 1440p or 4K and let the beautiful AAA game visuals wash over you. This is how gaming is meant to be played but you are likely to have to pay top dollar for the Radeon RX 6800 XT 16GB privilege. But if you can get this graphics solution, then its happy gaming.

Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 12 requirement.

How well will the Radeon RX 6800 XT 16GB run 2023 games? We will take a look at the biggest releases and frames per second analysis on Ultra graphics settings. Of the 1000 most demanding recommended specs found in game requirements today, this gpu is more powerful than the graphics requirement of 1000 games in todays list.

Running at 1080p this card gets a good frame rate from Resident Evil 8 with 73 FPS on Ultra. Then we take a look at Grand Theft Auto VI which is predicted to return a good 73 FPS. Another title that we looked at is the popular Battlefield 2042 which we saw getting a good 66 FPS.

As the PC gaming masses explore larger screen resolutions we decided to run some game checks at 1440p across a few popular games. We discovered the Radeon RX 6800 XT 16GB ran Resident Evil 8 to a reasonable performance level. Results across the graphics settings looked like this, Low: 147 FPS, Medium: 116 FPS, High: 78 FPS and Ultra: 56 FPS. Another game researched was Grand Theft Auto VI with predictions of L: 147FPS, M: 116FPS, H: 78FPS, U: 56FPS. And then we checked graphics card performance on Battlefield 2042, which returned L: 133FPS, M: 105FPS, H: 70FPS, U: 50FPS at 1440p. 1440p Radeon RX 6800 XT 16GB PC gaming is probably one of the better high resolution gaming options on the graphics card market. You can consider pushing most games up to 4K with this gpu and Ultra 1440p is going to be a regular occurrence for gaming today.

How many years will the Radeon RX 6800 XT 16GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the Radeon RX 6800 XT 16GB in your PC? A top gaming graphics card choice, the Radeon RX 6800 XT 16GB will not need to be upgraded for at least 3+ years of AAA gaming at top graphics settings

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the Radeon RX 6800 XT 16GB? There are no graphics cards on the current market that would provide a big enough increase in performance to warrant upgrading the Radeon RX 6800 XT 16GB.

Radeon RX 6800 XT 16GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
The Radeon RX 6800 XT 16GB is an Enthusiast gaming Graphics Card based on the second (2.0) Revision of the RDNA Architecture.

Architecture
The Navi 21 GPU offers support for GDDR6 Memory, DirectX 12 Ultimate, Vulkan 1.2, and OpenGL 6.5. This variant of the Navi 21 GPU features 72 Compute Units activated, offering 4608 Shader Processing Units, 288 TMUs and 128 ROPs. The GPU features a 1825 MHz base clock speed and up to 2250 MHz with boost clock. This puts its predicted performance roughly in line with the GeForce RTX 3080.

GPU
The Central Unit is clocked at 1825 MHz, rising to 2250 MHz with boost clock enabled.

Memory: Speed
The GPU is equipped with high-speed GDDR6 and accesses the Frame Buffer through a 256-bit memory interface, providing total memory bandwidth of 512 GB/s.

Memory: Frame Buffer
The GPU can fill up a Memory Pool of up to 16GB. Under most circumstances, this only proves useful in certain 3D Games whose Settings Require Large Amounts of Memory.
However, the GPU itself is aimed for 4K Gaming, In some limited scenarios, 16GB might be a bottleneck and Performance could be better were the Frame Buffer larger, however this would only be an issue in the most demanding games.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 300W, it requires at least a 700W PSU with two available 8-pin connectors.

Performance
AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT 16GB competes with GeForce RTX 3080 8GB, which is available for $699.
Specs currently available suggest the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT 16GB performance should be in the same region as the GeForce RTX 3080.
System Suggestions
AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT 16GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 3840 x2160 (4K). For the most demanding AAA games it should be ideally suited to 4K. We recommend a Very Strong Processor and at least 16GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
