AMD Radeon RX 6800 16GB
10 Aug 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

This computer hardware provides top end graphics. The Radeon RX 6800 16GB will easily meet recommended system requirements of games released today. This is a strong benchmarker on modern games and can often return excellent frame rates at high and ultra 1080p. But the Radeon RX 6800 16GB can also run 1440p pc system requirements.

Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 12 requirement.

Here is a quick game performance synopsis for the AAA games played in 2023. In particular we focus on how well the Radeon RX 6800 16GB runs at Ultra graphics settings and what frames per second it is getting at 1080p, 1440p and 4K monitor resolutions. This card runs recommended graphics requirements of 999 games from the top 1000 most demanding games being played today.

The 1080p FPS on Ultra for the Radeon RX 6800 16GB shows us that Days Gone is getting a strong result of 111 FPS, and then we are seeing FIFA 22 returning a strong 209 FPS while another game on our list is the Far Cry 6 which is getting 73 frames per second at Ultra 1080p.

We move on to 1440p, and tested FIFA 22 which delivered strong FPS results. Here are the graphic presets - Low: 421 FPS, Medium: 332 FPS, High: 223 FPS and Ultra: 159 FPS. Next we have Far Cry 6 running on Radeon RX 6800 16GB which gets L: 147FPS, M: 116FPS, H: 78FPS, U: 56FPS. And for performance contrast the popular Days Gone gets L: 224FPS, M: 176FPS, H: 119FPS, U: 85FPS at 1440p. Gaming at 1440p with the Radeon RX 6800 16GB is one of the more powerful graphics cards for this monitor resolution. Games will be running with stable frame rates at Ultra on a 1440p setup. 4K gaming for a number of modern games should also be considered with this graphics hardware.

How many years will the Radeon RX 6800 16GB graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the Radeon RX 6800 16GB in your PC? 2-3 years of top end gaming before an upgrade

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the Radeon RX 6800 16GB? There are no graphics cards on the current market that would provide a big enough increase in performance to warrant upgrading the Radeon RX 6800 16GB.

Radeon RX 6800 16GB Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
The Radeon RX 6800 16GB is an Enthusiast gaming Graphics Card based on the second (2.0) Revision of the RDNA Architecture.

Architecture
The Navi 21 GPU offers support for GDDR6 Memory, DirectX 12 Ultimate, Vulkan 1.2, and OpenGL 4.6. This variant of the Navi 21 GPU features 60 Compute Units activated, offering 3840 Shader Processing Units, 240 TMUs and 96 ROPs. The GPU features a 1605 MHz base clock speed and up to 2500 MHz with boost clock. This puts its predicted performance roughly in line with the GeForce RTX 3070.

GPU
The Central Unit is clocked at 1605 MHz, rising to 2500 MHz with boost clock enabled.

Memory: Speed
The GPU is equipped with high-speed GDDR6 and accesses the Frame Buffer through a 256-bit memory interface, providing total memory bandwidth of 448 GB/s.

Memory: Frame Buffer
The GPU can fill up a Memory Pool of up to 16GB. Under most circumstances, this only proves useful in certain 3D Games whose Settings Require Large Amounts of Memory.
However, the GPU itself is aimed for 4K Gaming, In some limited scenarios, 16GB might be a bottleneck and Performance could be better were the Frame Buffer larger, however this would only be an issue in the most demanding games.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 250W, it requires at least a 650W PSU with two available 8-pin connectors.

Performance
AMD Radeon RX 6800 16GB competes with GeForce RTX 3070 8GB, which is available for $499.
Specs currently available suggest the AMD Radeon RX 6800 16GB performance should be in the same region as the GeForce RTX 3070.
System Suggestions
AMD Radeon RX 6800 16GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 3840 x2160 (4K). For the most demanding AAA games it should be ideally suited to 4K. We recommend a Very Strong Processor and at least 16GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
