The Mafia games are a beloved series, and although the last main title in the franchise wasn’t exactly critically acclaimed, it was always inevitable that a new Mafia project would eventually come out. Now, in celebration of the 20th anniversary, the developers have confirmed another sequel is in the works, as well as giving away a free game this week plus some mighty discounts.

Mafia 4 is officially in development, as Roman Hladik, General Manager at developer Hangar13, recently confirmed as part of the Mafia 20th anniversary celebration. Unfortunately, it’s still a few years away from releasing, and the devs couldn’t share any details nor any gameplay or screenshots right now.

I'm happy to confirm we've started work on an all-new Mafia project!” said Hladik. “While it's a few years away and we can't share anything more right now, we're really excited to keep working on this beloved franchise and to entertain our players with new stories.

Some rumors earlier this year already stated a new Mafia game was in development, but interestingly said that it will be a prequel and use Unreal Engine 5 instead of their proprietary engine used so far. We probably won’t hear more about Mafia 4 for a while now, but the original Mafia will be free to keep on Steam on September 1st-5th. Plus, there’s currently a 65% discount on Mafia: Definitive Edition for $14 (£12/€14)!

What do you think? Are you excited for Mafia 4? What improvements or changes would you like to see in the sequel? What time period do you think it will be based in? And will you be grabbing your free copy of Mafia this week? Let us know!

Are you excited for a new Mafia game?

When do you think Mafia will be released?

i wouldn't mind them if they take too long to release the game unless they release a remake of Mafia 2, the same treatment they gave for Mafia 1

Kind of makes sense to make a prequel. Otherwise it gets too modern and will compete with GTA and that's a lost battle.
