There’s been a lot of rumors and speculation going on about the upcoming next generation of graphics cards from Nvidia and AMD, but so far we haven’t heard a peep from either of them other than they’re definitely coming this year. But a recent financial call from Nvidia teased the announcement of the RTX 40 series at GTC this year…
“I look forward to next month’s GTC conference,” Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang said on the call. “where we will share new advances of RTX reinventing 3D graphics and gaming.” That means Nvidia will be showing off the RTX 40 series during their keynote at the GPU Technology Conference (GTC) on September 20th.
What’s interesting here is that GTC is generally focused on the data centre/AI side of things, not gaming. However, considering the RTX 3090 and RTX 3090 Ti are both aimed more towards creators than gamers, it’s possible that the RTX 4090 will be the same, and so will awkwardly fit into the event.
Nvidia almost always launches their most high-end cards first, which means the RTX 4090 will of course be one of their first releases of the new GPU generation. But the fact that it has taken this long to make an official announcement means we’re all the more likely to be getting the RTX 40 series a little later than previous generations (the RTX 3080 launched on Sep 17th 2020, followed by the RTX 3090 on Sep 24th and RTX 3070 on Oct 29th).
That’s reinforced even more by the other comment Huang made on the financial call, where he responds to the recent drop in gaming revenue: “we'll get through this over the next few months and go into next year with our new architecture.”
Obviously the RTX 30 series launched in 2020 and continued through to 2021, but it looks like the RTX 40 series is already going to be released later than the RTX 30 series did 2 years ago. EIther way, we’ll have to wait and see what Nvidia has to say about it all when their keynote starts on September 20th 2022at GTC.
What do you think? Are you excited for the RTX 40 series? How would you feel about it launching later than usual? When do you think each GPU will be released? Let us know!

I am pretty sure that 4080 and 4090 will have same day launch and this year. For the rest of the lineup, I think it will partially depend on Ampere stock, they will delay it as much as needed, though I could see 4070 coming out 1-3 months after. Though I would say likely next year. For anyone interested below that, I think it could easily be 6+ month wait. Hence why I keep saying that there is no point in buying top end Ampere, unless it gets really cheap, I am talking 3080 below expected 4070 MSRP, assuming they will be close in performance. But if you are after midrange something like RX6600 or 3060, then it is still fine to buy whatever makes sense at that price range. But I definitely wouldn't buy anything above 3060Ti or RX6700XT.

Hopefully the 4070 doesn't take too long if it ends up being next year :)

I hope the same mate.
As far as now, the 4070 will be on par with a 3090TI, and that for just 500$ msrp, so definitely grabbing it when its out :)

If the 4090 launches this year, I expect them to drag their feet with the lower skus, so their partners can push the huge stock of RTX 30 series card through their channels. So don't buy high-end cards anymore in case of emergency, buy a RX 6600 that will not lose most of its value.
