Valve has had a pretty rocky history when it comes to hardware ventures, with multiple ideas and only a couple that have actually succeeded. But their latest product release has been overwhelmingly successful, which has made Valve commit to more generations coming in the future.
A new ebook about the Steam Deck has been released as Valve prepares for a launch in Asian territories. In it, the company talks about the history of their hardware adventures as well as some more generic info as an introduction to the Deck. But one particular section talks about the future of Steam Deck, and confirms Valve is committed to more generations…
“In the future, Valve will follow up on this product with improvements and iterations to hardware and software, bringing new versions of Steam Deck to market.” The same core principle will still apply to future Steam Decks though: a mobile PC platform with access to your Steam library on the go.
“This is a multi-generational product line. Valve will support Steam Deck and SteamOS well into the foreseeable future. We will learn from the Steam community about new uses for our hardware that we haven’t thought of yet, and we will build new versions to be even more open and capable than the first version of Steam Deck has been.”
That’s a pretty big deal considering Valve has had a long history of trying out hardware releases only to abandon them later down the line (Steam Machines or Steam Controllers, anyone?). But the way Valve says that all those failures led to the Deck sounds like they finally found their thing and are not letting go.
Obviously it probably won’t be for a while before we hear or even see anything relating to a Steam Deck 2 (or whatever it will be called), as Valve is still sorting out shipments for the original Steam Deck across the world. Thankfully, it sounds like they’ll be taking on customer feedback pretty seriously, and making meaningful improvements for future generations.
What do you think? Are you interested in a Steam Deck 2? What changes or improvements would you like to see in the next version? How are you finding your current Steam Deck? Let us know!

As far as I can tell - it's because GD was a passion project and never really made money. Very little financing plus Felix taking care of his family and personal matters = GD had to go at some point... I just wish that point was communicated more clearly, but the writing was on the wall when the "update" happened and development was all over the place. Sad. It was such a great website...

Well, I've been wondering for months why there are no more nerw articles...
I just found out this will be closed.
Sad times.
Looks like Valve is expanding its hardware line with the Steam Deck 2, and it's exciting to see them venturing into the Asian market. Can't wait to see what they have in store!

Wow I haven't used GD in years. I just saw the name pop up in an old YouTube Video and figured I would visit. Looks like its time has just recently passed. Used to be on here every day as a teen for years and spent hundreds of hours reading every article that got posted! Great memories... Godspeed Game Debate!

Big F! I checked back here every once in a while. Great memories here and sad to see it's on its last legs. I've been saving some of my posted blogs and articles for posterity. I don't recognize any names below, but I used to be an administrator here almost a decade ago now, which is crazy how fast time flies. I will miss this place for sure.
