The immersive Sim genre is a long and convoluted one, making waves in the 90s/00s, but struggling in the last decade to make significant sales. A few years ago we found out a new sequel in one of the fathers of the Immersive Sim genre was in development, but since then has had a pretty rocky development history…
We got a glimpse of Pre-Alpha gameplay for System Shock 3 back in 2019, and in 2020 Tencent picked up development from OtherSide Entertainment. Now in a recent interview, Stephen Kick, the CEO of Nightdive Studios, said that the rights have been fully sold to Tencent recently. Which means SS3 is entirely in the hands of Tencent.
“They then subsequently sold their rights to Tencent,” Kick said in a recent interview. “So Tencent currently has the rights to the third game, and we have the rights to do the remake of the first game and potentially a remake of the second game. That’s pretty much where it stands right now.”
The interesting part is that Kick mentions a potential System Shock 2 Remake, which would be no surprise considering they are about to release the System Shock Remake. Kick also said that if System Shock 3 does indeed get made, then they could also develop a System Shock 4 and even System Shock 5.
Though knowing Tencent, there’s not a lot of hope at this stage unfortunately. SS3 has had some rocky development, and as stated before the Immersive Sim genre has notoriously struggled to push significant sales. There’s a potential for Tencent to switch it round though and become more like an FPS RPG, but we’ll have to wait and see.
What do you think? Would you be interested in System Shock 3? Do you think Tencent will end up developing it or scratch it entirely? And would you also be interested in a System Shock 2 Remake? Let us know your thoughts!

If they do make these single-player games mobile-friendly, I hope they don't include too many mobile-only features. Best, Sugar Land Concrete Contractors

If it is in the hands of Tencent, we should expect a ripped-off mashup of Prey, CS:GO and League of Legends while trying to get clown costumes wearing cosmonaut helmets and a face-palming dystopian AI in the background. Definitely excited!!
After the demo, it's essentially vaporware.

Bruh, the System Shock remake hasn't even been released yet. Outside of the demo, it's close to vaporware status.
